The St. Mike’s library

The John M. Kelly Library serves as the main library for St. Michael’s College. Its collections are especially strong in the humanities, with particular emphasis on Catholic theology, European literature, the Middle Ages, history, book history, media studies, philosophy, Celtic languages and English literature.

Regis College collection

Following the federation of Regis College with the University of St. Michael’s College Faculty of Theology, the Kelly Library became the home of the new Regis St. Michael’s (RSM) Faculty of Theology collections. These materials, transferred from the former Regis College Library, greatly expanded our holdings on St. Ignatius, Ignatian theology, and Jesuit studies.

DVD collection

The DVD collection includes over 3,500 titles including documentaries on art, history, science and literature, as well as classic movies (especially foreign films) and some current releases. The Friends of the Kelly Library has generously donated funds for this collection.

DVDs owned by the Kelly Library are acquired for home-viewing only. They do not include public-performance rights (e.g. for classroom use).

Games collection

Our game collection includes over 200 games across PlayStation, XBOX and Nintendo Switch formats. Initially developed to support Game Studies in the Book and Media Studies program, the collection doubled in size after acquiring the collection held by UTL’s Media Commons archives. To ensure access and usability of the collection, we loan all consoles needed to play the games.

USMC publications collection

The USMC publications collection includes books and articles written or edited by individuals who have been members of the faculty, staff, or student body of the University of St. Michael’s College. It includes works published from 1813 to the present.

The University of St. Michael’s College counts among its current and former faculty, staff, and students, numerous major authors in many different fields. Represented among former faculty are communication theorist Marshall McLuhan and theologian Gregory Baum. Represented among former students are psychologist John Bradshaw, novelist Hugh Hood, theologians Vernon J. Bourke and Alan Schreck, art historian Karal Ann Marling, and children’s author Michael Bedard.

Most items in the USMC Publications Collection are shelved in the circulating collection on the second and third floors of the Library. Rare items are housed in Special Collections: Archives and Rare Books.
