Teaching Support
The team at the Kelly Library is here to support your teaching, and your students’ learning. Whether you’re preparing a new course, updating your reading list, or helping students strengthen their research skills, Kelly librarians and staff can help you make the most of the library’s collections, tools and expertise.
How we can help
Subject librarians
Connect with your subject librarian for specialized support. We can help identify resources for your assignments, recommend materials for purchase or teach research skills tailored to your course.
Course reserves
Set aside essential materials for your students to borrow on short-term loan. We’ll make sure the resources you assign are available when your students need them.
Syllabus service
We can prepare a digital reading list directly in your Quercus course page. We can scan, link, or license materials so your students can easily access course readings.
Copyright guidance
Get expert advice on copyright and Fair Dealing. We’ll help you use materials responsibly, request permissions where needed and explore alternate options for sharing content.
Writing and research support
Encourage your students to build their academic writing and research confidence. We offer workshops, one-on-one help and online tools that develop essential scholarly skills.
Support you students with Kelly Instruction Modules
Kelly Librarians and SMC writing instructors have developed several interactive tutorials to help your students produce clearer, more thoughtful essays. The tutorials cover a range of skills and concepts, including narrowing a topic, creating a research question, developing an argument, fine-tuning thesis statements, keyword-searching, understanding primary sources, and gaining confidence with citation.
Please feel free to embed one or more instructional tutorials or videos in Quercus. Here’s how:
- Click the red <> Embed bar beneath a tutorial.
- Copy the code to your clipboard using CTRL-C (or COMMAND-C on an Apple).
- Create a page in Quercus and give it a title.
- Select the </> HTML editor link at the bottom of the editor box.
- Paste the embed code into the box using CTRL-V (or COMMAND-V on an Apple).
- Save & Publish the page.
